Bread and Butter Pickles

Ingredients:
  • 2 gallons cucumbers
  • 12 small onions
  • 34 c. salt
  • 4 large peppers
  • 10 c. sugar
  • 1 T. turmeric
  • 1 tsp. cloves
  • 1 tsp. celery seed
  • 2 12 qts. vinegar

Instructions:

 Mix together the vegetables adn the salt; let stand 3 1/2 hours. Drain well. In a large pot with the cucumbers, onions and peppers, add the sugar, turmeric, cloves, celery seed and vinegar; heat thoroughly but do not boil. Put into sterilized jars and process in a hot water bath to seal.
