Bread and Butter Pickles
- 2 gallons cucumbers
- 12 small onions
- 3⁄4 c. salt
- 4 large peppers
- 10 c. sugar
- 1 T. turmeric
- 1 tsp. cloves
- 1 tsp. celery seed
- 2 1⁄2 qts. vinegar
Instructions: Mix together the vegetables adn the salt; let stand 3 1/2 hours. Drain well. In a large pot with the cucumbers, onions and peppers, add the sugar, turmeric, cloves, celery seed and vinegar; heat thoroughly but do not boil. Put into sterilized jars and process in a hot water bath to seal.
