Pie Crust
- 3 cups flour
- ½ cup butter
- ½ cup shortening
- ½ tsp. salt
- 6-10 tbsp. ice water
Instructions: Mix the first four ingredients in food processor until the consistency of corn meal. Add water very slowly until the dough is beginning to pull together. Remove from food processor and pull together with hand being careful not to knead. Form into three balls as this recipe will make 3 pie shells. You can either roll our immediately or put in the refrigerator and roll out a little later. Some people think that it rolls out better when chilled.
Notes:
Several years ago I always made all my pie crusts. They are much better than the prepared ones in the store but are time consuming and some people think not worth the effort. I disagree but lately have resorted to the store bought ones myself. *Some people think that it is easier to roll out the crust when thoroughly chilled.
