Stew Beef or Pot Roast

Ingredients:
  • 2 pounds of beef stew or chuck roast
  • 2 tbsp. butter or margarine
  • 4 cups boiling water
  • 1 tbsp. lemon juice
  • 1 tsp. worchestershire sauce
  • 1 clove garlic (optional)
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 tbsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • ½ tsp. paprika
  • dash allspice
  • ½ tsp. pepper
  • 1 onion
  • carrots
  • potatoes

Instructions:

Brown meat in margarine with all other ingredients except carrots and potatoes. Cover and simmer 2 hours; stir occasionally to keep from sticking. Remove bay leaf and garlic. Add vegetables and simmer 30 more minutes. Make paste and thicken gravy.
